James “Jim” Hopp, 69, of Grand Meadow, MN passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN.

James H. Hopp was born August 29, 1946, to Herbert and Ruby (Pagel) Hopp in New Ulm, MN. He was baptized on September 15, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he was also confirmed. After high school, he attended college at Mankato State and graduated in 1968 with a degree in teaching.

On December 17, 1966, Jim was united in marriage to Pam Ohland in Gibbon, MN at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. He accepted his first teaching position in Grand Meadow, MN where he served the school district for 40 years as a teacher, coach, Athletic Director, Dean of Students, and Transportation Director. He also served many terms on the church council. As a teacher, Jim spent his life guiding his family. His summers were spent painting barns and houses in the area. Jim’s true joy in life was his family. He was proud of all his children and grandchildren and traveled many miles to watch their activities or take care of them. Hours were spent pheasant hunting, fishing, cooking, and playing cribbage. He strived to be fair to all and had a unique sense of humor. Jim will be missed but will live on in those closest to him.

Jim is survived by his wife, Pam, of Grand Meadow, MN; children, Chris (Christina) Hopp of Elkader, IA; Sarah (Matt) Reiland of Spring Valley, MN; and Jen (Nate) Graham of Coon Rapids, MN; five grandchildren, Isaiah Hopp, Elijah Hopp, Anika Reiland, Zach Reiland, and Greta Graham; one step-grandchild, Bill Carda; siblings, Larry (Shirley) Hopp of Gibbon, MN; Vickie (Terry) Carter of St. James, MN; and Kim Paa of New Ulm, MN; mother-in-law, Mae Ohland of Ham Lake, MN; sisters and brother-in-law, Cheryl (Randy) Herschman of Ham Lake, MN, Janet (Gary) Scharfencamp of Franklin, MN, and Bruce (Shari) Ohland of Stillwater, MN; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Ruby, infant sister, Mary Ann, father-in-law, Harold Ohland, and nephew, Matthew Herschman.
