Dorothy Mae (Theel) Farmer, 90, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, unexpectedly at her home. 

She was born April 14, 1925, on the family farm in rural Delaware County, Iowa, to Herman and Gertrude (Tinkey) Theel. She was united in marriage to William F. Farmer on April 8, 1947, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Strawberry Point, Iowa. Four children were born to this union. 

Dorothy farmed together with her husband, William, near Strawberry Point, for over 30 years. While farming she also raised her four boys and when she could helped her dad out on his farm. The couple resided in Oelwein, Iowa, for a while and eventually moved to Prairie du Chien. She loved spending time with friends and family. She adored the outdoors, especially the Mississippi River. Dorothy enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, and a good game of Euchre or 31.

She is survived by her sons, William A. Farmer of Prairie du Chien, John (Kay) Farmer of Strawberry Point, Terry (Linda) Farmer of Prairie du Chien; daughter-in-law Jane Farmer of Kellogg, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother Niles Theel; and four sisters, June Grissom, Wanda Hentges, Bev Fannon and Erma Wulfekuhle.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William F. Farmer; son, Randy Farmer; grandson, Chad Farmer; brother, Bob Theel; and sister, Helen Theel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader and one hour before mass time at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Elkader, Iowa.
