River Ridge wins regional title

Number one seeded River Ridge swept visiting and number two seeded Seneca three games to none in a Division 4 Regional final volleyball match Saturday night.

River Ridge won the regional championship by scores of 25-11, 25-11 and 25-17.

River Ridge will next face another number one seed in Southwestern at 7 p.m. at North Crawford High School on Thursday, Oct. 29 in the sectional semifinal.

To reach the regional final against Seneca, River Ridge hosted Highland for a regional semifinal match on Thursday, Oct. 22. River Ridge won in three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-11 and 25-9.

Senior Bridgette Myers sprained her ankle in River Ridge’s previous match, but was able to come back stronger than ever against the Highland Cardinals. She had 24 kills with only two errors out of 40 attempts, which means she had a .550 hitting average for the match. She also had 19 digs, seven assists, and one block.

Taylor Langmeier added 20 assists, seven kills, one ace serve, and one block. Amber Patterson had five blocks and one ace serve. Sydney Bloom chipped in 24 digs. Sierra Schier had two blocks and two ace serves. Sam Steiger had one ace serve and nine digs.

“The girls played very well after having practiced without Bridgette the night before the match,” said Coach Dianne Langmeier. “They came together as a team and played some great ball. Highland played us very tough in the first game. It took until about 16 points before we started pulling away from them.”
