Harlan Reimer

Harlan William Reimer was born on January 14, 1923, in Elkader, Iowa, to Henry J. and Lucy A. (Mueller) Reimer. He graduated from Elkader High School in 1942.
Harlan enlisted in the United States Army in April 1943 and served in Europe during World War II as a member of the 247th Combat Engineer Battalion. He was honorably discharged in October 1945. 
After the war, he attended the University of Dubuque and then Elkader Junior College, where he graduated in May 1948. He then attended and graduated from Upper Iowa University, Fayette, Iowa, with a Bachelor of Science degree, in 1949. 

Harlan worked for the U.S. Postal Service, in Elkader, for 42 years, first as a clerk and then a rural mail carrier, retiring in November 1990.

In 1962, with the help of his brother, Orlan, he built his house in Elkader, where he lived for 52 years. In May 2014, he moved to the Tower Living Center in Garnavillo.

He died on July 15, 2015, at the age of 92, at the Central Community Hospital, Elkader.  

Harlan was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold; and half-sisters, Florence, Marie, Dorothy, Bertha, and Louise.
He is survived by his brother, Orlan (Beverly) Reimer; nephews and nieces, Scott Reimer, Linda Decker, Randa Niewoehner, John Reimer, and James Reimer;  great-nephews and nieces, Adam, Kari, Ryan, Christopher, Nicholas, Andrea, Sara, and Ashley; and many great-great nephews and nieces.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family burial will be held at Eastside Cemetery, Elkader.
