If you’ve been driving on Marquette Road in Prairie du Chien, you may have noticed that the tank at the Prairie du Chien veteran’s memorial has had a bit of a makeover. On Wednesday, July 1, Top Notch Construction and Design, LLC, began the process of repainting the area landmark. “We had four guys out here all day,” said Pete Langmeier, one of the company’s owners.

Afterward, Pete said that he had a new respect for the men who manned the machine in combat. In order to repaint the tank, the Top Notch workers first power-washed and scraped off the old layer of paint. When it was dried off, the crew then put two coats of paint on the machine to finish off the job.

Top Notch donated both the time and materials for the project’s completion. “Prairie has been very good to us,” said Pete. “We wanted to find a way to give something back.”

Pete’s brother and co-owner Paul noted that it feels good to give back. “It’s better when you just do a good deed because you want to.”

With a history of veterans in the Langmeier family, the chairman of the veteran’s memorial Dean LaPointe thought that the crew was the perfect fit for the job. “It was nice that they stepped in and completed the project so quickly. It was their idea to have it done for the Fourth [of July].”

As a representative of the City of Prairie du Chien, City Adminstrator Aaron Kramer spoke to the city’s gratitude of the job well done. “We deeply appreciate their work. It’s a real positive for Prairie du Chien. Thousands of people drive by here each day, and there are even more in the summer. It’s important to keep it looking good.”
