The grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new Crossing Rivers Health medical center took place in Prairie du Chien Saturday. Thousands toured the state-of-the-art, two-story facility. Planning for the 137,000-square-foot hospital began in 2011 when the board of directors announced their bold and visionary decision to build a new medical center. In April of 2012, the land was purchased, and the groundbreaking was held on June 10, 2013. Over 375,000 man hours were logged in building the facility and over 500 donors have contributed $1.2 million to the project. The move to the new hospital will officially occur on Thursday, June 11. Until then, all medical care will continue at the Taylor Street location. One of many components in the new medical center that Crossing Rivers staff is truly proud of includes this pull-out supply center, accessible from inside the room as well as outside the room, which allows nurses to not disturb their patients who might be sleeping. (Photo by Caitlin Bittner)

Community members touring Crossing Rivers Health on Saturday got a real behind-the-scenes look at many of the rooms they may never experience again. This room is for special care/intensive care and features a lift that can help caregivers move bariatric patients weighing between 300 and 550 pounds. (Photo by Caitlin Bittner)
