Louis A. Decker, 77, of Holy Cross, died Thursday, May 14, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

Visitation was Monday, May 18, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Farley.

Funeral services were Tuesday, May 19, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rickardsville, conducted by Rev. Noah Diehm.Eucharistic Minister was Helen Schmitt. Lector was Brother Stephen Markham. Placing of the pall was done by Patsy Decker, Wayne Decker, Paul Decker and Mike Decker. Giftbearers were Kayla Decker, Abbie Decker, Madison Decker and Becky Decker.

Burial was held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Rickardsville. Casketbearers were Andrew Decker, Brian Decker, Justin Decker, Ryan Decker, Dennis Decker, Kenny Decker and Gary Brimeyer.

Louis was born Jan. 5, 1938, in Balltown, son of Roy and Anna (Pothoff) Decker. He received his education in the Balltown area schools. On May 23, 1964, he was united in marriage to Pat Hannan at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rickardsville. 

Louis fulfilled his lifetime dream of owning his own business when he started Decker Tractor Repair with his son Paul. He was currently the co-owner of that business with his eldest son Wayne. His passion also revolved around restored Farmall tractors, hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling and snowmobile “back-packing” trips that he took in Michigan with his friends and family. He also enjoyed anything that involved any of his eight grandchildren.  He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Rickardsville.

He is survived by his wife, Pat of 50 years; his three sons, Wayne (Kathy) Decker and Paul Decker both of Holy Cross; Mike (Laura) Decker of Dyersville; eight grandchildren, Brian, Becky, Justin, Ryan, Kayla, Abbie, Madison and Andrew; a daughter-in-law, Jolene Decker of Dyersville; his twin brother, Lloyd Decker and a sister, Anna Mae (Donald) Brimeyer both of Dubuque; and sisters-in-law, Edith Decker of Dubuque, Mary Decker of Sherrill, Lucille (James) Sperfslage of Central City, Doris Hannan of Holy Cross; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond and Alvin Decker; a sister, Delores Decker; his father and mother-in-law, Donald and Marie Hannan; and a sister-in-law, Janice Decker.
