Jaaren Riebe (left), representing the Prairie du Chien Class of 1986, recently presented a donation for $500 to Mary Ann Heisz, of the Great River Relay For Life to be used toward the Cancer Kickin’ Concert on May 9 in Prairie du Chien.

By Correne Martin

The Great River Relay For Life is hosting a Cancer Kickin’ Concert Saturday, May 9, from 7 to 11 p.m., at Huckleberry’s Banquet Facility in Prairie du Chien. The Back Home Boys will entertain the crowd throughout the evening and, about halfway through their set, there will be an auction. The highlight of the auction is a 2014-15 Wisconsin Badgers men’s autographed basketball.

“There will be other great gifts auctioned too,” said Mary Ann Heisz, a local Relay For Life representative. Butch Boland will be the auctioneer.

Sponsors of the event include Huckleberry’s, the Prairie du Chien Class of 1986 and The Back Home Boys. All proceeds will be donated to the Great River Relay For Life on Aug. 1 (at Prairie du Chien High School).

“In the 15 years we’ve been doing this, over a million dollars has been raised for the American Cancer Society,” Heisz said. “That’s really amazing, when you think of what one small area can do. Everyone should be so proud of that.”

Tickets to the Cancer Kickin’ Concert may be purchased at Kwik Trip North and South as well as Crossing Rivers Health.

“It’s very important for people to support this, whether they can come and participate in the auction or just buy a ticket and come listen to the wonderful music and dance,” Heisz added. “Cancer is a serious disease, but we always try to have a fun time as we celebrate our cancer survivors and remember those who battled the disease.”
