Tanner Irish
River Ridge has named its valedictorian and salutatorian for the class of 2015. Kari Breuer, daughter of Joe and Cindi Breuer, of Glen Haven, is the valedictorian. Tanner Irish, son of Tom and Lori Irish, of Bagley, is the salutatorian.
Kari Breuer will attend UW-River Falls and major in animal science this fall. She is excited about meeting new people and having new experiences.
As her high school career comes to a close, Kari is proud to have achieved a 3.982 cumulative GPA, made the high honor roll all four years, and scored a 29 on her ACT. She was a National Merit semifinalist as well.
She was active in the Science Club, FFA Chapter as treasurer and National Honor Society as secretary. She also served as track manager for three years and wrestling manager for one year.
Outside of school, Kari has been employed as a relief milker, worked on her family’s farm and volunteered for St. Mary’s Help of Christians Church, the Glen Haven Volunteer Fire Department, the Knights of Columbus and the Wisconsin Pork Producers.
Looking back, Kari’s favorite high school memory involved traveling to Oklahoma for the national soils contest through the FFA. She said her favorite class was wildlife management and that Mr. Stalsberg was her favorite teacher. Her most challenging class was precalculus.
Kari points to her grandma as her biggest inspiration. In giving advice to underclassmen, she stated, “Don’t be afraid to get involved and try new things, even if you don’t want to or don’t think you’re interested; the things you learn and people you meet will greatly help you in your future.”
Tanner Irish will attend the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for computer engineering this fall. He said he is ready to go out and experience life.
In high school, Tanner managed to attain a 3.97 cumulative GPA, make high honors all four years, and record a 26 on his ACT.
In extracurriculars, he enjoyed basketball for three years and track for four years. He was honored to be captain of the track team too.
Additionally, Tanner was a member of the Student Council as vice president, the Wellness Club as president, the Science Club, choir and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
In the community, he has worked at his parents’ business, Luck O’ the Irish, as a cook.
Reflecting on his best memories of high school, Tanner said he will never forget running at state in the 4x200 and 4x100 relays. His favorite class was CAD I and his favorite teacher has been Mr. Prochaska. The most challenging courses have been English and grammar.
Tanner said his biggest inspirations have been his family. When asked to provide advice to underclassmen, he added, “Enjoy high school while you can, and work hard to get good grades.”
