Arlene Myrtle Erb, 97, McGregor, died Sunday, Jan. 18, in McGregor. 

She was born Nov. 17, 1917 to Joseph and Borghild (Olson) Larson in Clermont, Iowa. She was baptized on Jan. 13, 1918 and confirmed at East Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont, Iowa. Arlene graduated from Postville High School in 1936.

Arlene was united in marriage with Elmer F. Erb on May 18, 1938 at East Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont, Iowa. Three children were born to this union, Ronald, Janet and Shirley. She was a teacher for two years in Postville, after high school, she was a farm wife for most of her life and she cleaned for the Holiday Shores Motel in McGregor. She also owned and operated several small businesses in Luana, Iowa, including a woodworking shop with her husband in McGregor called “El-Mar Wood Crafts.”

Arlene was an avid Chicago Cubs fan but she also enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves baseball and the Iowa Hawkeye basketball teams. She had a strong faith and was a member at St. Paul Lutheran Church in McGregor.

Arlene is survived by her three children, Ronald E. (Judy) Erb of Prairieville, La., Shirley (Ron) Hute of McGregor and Janet Erb-Meyers of McGregor; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers, Oscar, Leonard, Bjaney, Arnold and Ernie Larson and two sisters.

Visitation will be on Thursday, Jan. 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Friday.

Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, McGregor, Iowa with Rev. Andrew Prews as the Officiant.

Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor, Iowa.

Thornburg – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of McGregor, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
