Janet Klinkenberg

Janet M. Klinkenberg, 66, passed away suddenly on her 66th birthday at the Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster.

She was born July 7, 1948 in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Robert and Ila Mae (DuCharme) Cherrier. Janet attended St. Gabriel’s grade school and then graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Prairie du Chien before moving to Madison. In Madison, Janet worked at WPS Insurance where she proudly was a part of implementing one of Wisconsin’s first HMO health plans. Janet also worked as an insurance adjuster in Madison, and later did secretarial work for many years after moving back to the Prairie du Chien area.

Janet appreciated and enjoyed many of the little things in life including ice skating, having a fish fry and going to the Madison zoo. Janet adored her children and always worked hard and was generous and giving, always making sure her kids came first.

Janet’s real pride and joy were her grand kids. She loved to have them visit, and would shower them with her homemade popsicles, her famous banana bread, and of course, too much candy.

Janet is survived by her significant other of 23 years, Dale Konichek of Mt. Hope; her children, Stacy (Cari) Polodna of Bagley, Mark (Tammy) Polodna of Mindoro, Jamie Klinkenberg (Jerry Ward) of Boscobel, and William Klinkenberg (Cindy Hermann) of Onalaska; her sister Dale Crubel (Steve) of Bloomington; her brothers, Robert Cherrier of Earlville, Iowa and Mark Cherrier of Mt. Hope; sister-in-law Linda Cherrier of Prairie du Chien; along with five grandchildren, Abigail, Alivia, Peter, Nicholas and Madeline. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Don Cherrier.

Family and friends got together and celebrated her life with a cookout and sharing stories about her. As many people have said, her smile could light up a room, and she will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service was held Saturday, July 12, at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien.
