PdC fireworks Saturday, July 19

The annual Prairie du Chien fireworks celebration on beautiful St. Feriole Island has been officially moved back one week, to Saturday, July 19, due to the high Mississippi River waters, according to the Prairie du Chien Area Chamber of Commerce office.

The fireworks will be shot off after dusk  from the sandy beach on the riverfront. Watch the magnificent display of fireworks over the Mississippi River.

Lions Club members will be on the bridges of Blackhawk Avenue and Washington Street to accept donations to help with fireworks’ costs and assist worthwhile projects the club sponsors. Your contributions are always greatly appreciated.

Also consider spending the weekend in Prairie du Chien as the community will host the War of 1812 as well. On July 19 and 20, the community will honor the 200th anniversary of the only War of 1812 battle fought on Wisconsin soil, in 1814. The land is now the beautiful grounds of the Villa Louis.

Several events are planned throughout the day, including era re-enactors sharing their love of history, a narrated battle with musket and cannon fire pyrotechnics, informal demonstrations of military and civilian camp life, an archaeological dig of Ft. Crawford all weekend and hands-on activities for children. Food will be available on site. During the day on Saturday, take the opportunity to learn 1812 style dance steps to be used at the evening ball where you can dance under the stars to live period music.
