Eight local boys spent Friday at the Monona Community Center making and programming LEGO robots. The Robotics 101 program was run by Shannon Dallenbach Durbin, program coordinator with the Clayton County ISU Extension and Outreach office, who also ran a girls program on Monday. Here, Jacob Trudo (left) and Max Havlicek send their robot through an obstacle course during Friday’s Robotics 101 program. The boys wanted to use all the robot’s sensors during the obstacle course, so they made it knock over a small ball, stop on a clap command (shown here), turn around and cross a specified finish line.
Dallenbach Durbin showed the boys how to use a program that makes one robot kick a ball while another protects the goal—fitting with the World Cup currently going on in Brazil.
