Pickup strikes road sign, utility pole and stop light
On Friday, June 27, at approximately 2:09 a.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a one-vehicle crash on East La Pointe Street at State Highway 18 in the township of Bridgeport. The caller stated that a vehicle struck a light pole and knocked it over into the roadway. The light pole was blocking the south turning lane.
When deputies arrived on scene, the operator of a 2001 Dodge Ram had already left the scene of the accident. The driver was found to be Shane R. Kellogg, 33, Prairie du Chien. Deputies made contact with Kellogg at his residence. Kellogg was eastbound on East La Pointe Street and was operating at a high rate of speed. Kellogg was unable to negotiate a turn and locked the brakes up. Kellogg’s vehicle slid for approximately 50 feet. During this time the vehicle went over the curb on the south side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a road sign, utility pole and a stop light. The vehicle came to a stop after striking the stop light. The vehicle had severe damage and was towed from the scene.
Kellogg was cited for operating while under the influence (second offense), no insurance, failure to notify police of an accident, hit and run property adjacent to the highway, unreasonable and imprudent speed and disorderly conduct.
Assisting at the scene were the Prairie du Chien Police Department, Bob’s Towing, Alliant Energy and the Prairie du Chien Street Department.
