Area athletes at
State Track Meet
Three area track and field athletes competed in the State Track and Field Meet at UW-La Crosse Friday and Saturday.
People huddled under the bleachers for more than two hours Friday during a downpour at the beginning of the meet. It took about another hour to get the track dry enough for competition. The pole vault event was held inside of Mitchell Hall because officials deemed it unsafe to compete outside.
Freshman Tatem Baures of Wauzeka-Steuben finished seventh in the Division 3 3200-meter run in a time of 11:57.00. Baures scored 2 points for Wauzeka-Steuben which finished tied for 49th in the girls meet. Baures also finished in 16th place in the 1600 in 5:42.73.
River Ridge sophomore Bridgette Myers finished 13th in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:01.12.
River Ridge senior Andy Breuer took 12th in the pole vault with a height of 12 feet, 6 inches.
