Bulldog track wrap-up
By Michael Newton
MFL MarMac Boys Track Coach Dan Anderson said of the season: “The 2014 boys track team saw a record number of guys participate (40). We were well-rounded, scoring points in most events throughout the season. Our hurdle events were our strength again this season. Our field events made the biggest improvements, scoring significant points in the high jump and discus. We are still improving on our sprint events and long distance events, but these have been made up of mostly freshmen and sophomores.
"We graduated six seniors and they will be tough to replace, but we've built a solid foundation and should be able to fill those spots with underclassmen. Our eighth grade squad had a great season, so I look forward to mixing that bunch in with our returning 30 plus guys next spring."
Award winners include Sam Pfeiffer, who received the Bulldog award, Cody Mason the SALT award and Bryce Burke the Blood, Sweat and Tears award.
The girls' season was highlighted by Madelyn Vogt making state in the 200 meter, where she finished 24th. The team was shorthanded, with only 12 girls participating. Vogt was the only team member lost to graduation. If the Bulldogs can gain some field event girls from the incoming eight graders, they will be more competitive in meets. With one less team in the conference next year, the Bulldogs should also improve their standing.
