Edith M. "Sis" Jelinek


Edith M. “Sis” Jelinek, 81, of Prairie du Chien passed away peacefully Sunday, May 18, at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, surrounded by her family after a sudden illness. 

She was born Sept. 18, 1932 the daughter of Rudy and Edith (Dubel) Konichek. She married Larry Jelinek Sr. on Sept. 21, 1950. She and her husband farmed for many years and Sis also worked at Walmart retiring after 25 years. She was a longtime member of the Cliffhangers Snowmobile Club and was an avid gardener. Sis was an excellent cook and a loving grandmother and great grandmother. 

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Larry of Prairie du Chien; her daughters Sandy (Harold) Guernsey of Eastman, Susie Broadwater of Suwanee, Ga.; her son Larry (Heidi) Jelinek Jr. of Avoca; her sister Darlene (Morris) Lessard of Prairie du Chien; two sisters-in-law; Margaret and Virginia Konichek both of Prairie du Chien; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Rudy, Ray, and Harry Konichek; her sister Irene Rosenbaum; and one grandson Larry Jelinek III.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 22, at 11 a.m. at the St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish with Rev. James Weighner officiating with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call on Wednesday, May 21, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, where there will be a rosary at 7:30 p.m.
