Margenelle Moeller, 88, of Monona, Iowa, died Friday, May 9, 2014, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, Iowa. Margenelle Laura Irene, the daughter of Fred and Amanda (Doerring) Becker, was born September 21, 1925 in Wagner Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She was baptized October 25, 1925, at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana, Iowa, and was confirmed March 17, 1940, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa.
Margenelle attended the Eno School in rural Luana. She was united in marriage with Orlando John Arno Moeller on June 23, 1948, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. To this union a son, Roger Frederick Moeller, was born. After their marriage, Margenelle and Orlando farmed the Becker farm in Wagner Township. They moved to Luana in 1977 and after Orlando’s death, Margenelle moved to Monona in 1981. Margenelle also worked at Monona Wire Company from 1975 until her retirement.
Margenelle was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and St. Paul WELCA in Postville, the Silver Creek Club, and Singles Card Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing cards, genealogy, scrap booking, and puzzles. In September of 1993, Margenelle and her sisters, Ivanelle, Helen, Jeanette, and Gladys, started writing a book called “Memories” about their parents and grandparents.
Margenelle is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Linda Moeller of Luana; her grandchildren, Chad (Melissa) Moeller of Monona; Cathy (Brian) White of Elkader; and Chris (Kallie) Moeller of Postville; her great-grandchildren, Amber and Jade Moeller; Samantha, Nichole, Allison, and Michael White; and Chloe, Kody, Cameron, and Keely Moeller; her sisters, Jeanette Walch of Luana and Gladys Sampson of Castalia, Iowa; her sisters-in-law, Delores “Tootie” Fischer of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; and Norma Moeller of Dyersville, Iowa; and her brother-in-law, Kenneth (Delores) Wilkens of La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Margenelle was preceded in death by her husband, Orlando; her parents; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Ivanelle (Lorenz) Kuhse; and Helen (Lloyd) Everman; brothers-in-law, Ewald Walch and Daryl Sampson; Orlando’s parents, William and Ella Moeller; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Erwin and Gladys Moeller, Irene and Lloyd Meyer, Grace Wilkens, Wilbert “Pete” Moeller, and Donald Fischer.
Visitation was held on Monday, May 12, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Funeral services were Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. Rev. Steve Brackett was the officiant. Burial followed in the Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa.
