Laura Marie Larson


Captain Laura Marie Larson, 46, died May 9, at Creighton University Medical Center after battling ovarian cancer.  

Laura was born to Ralph and Joanne Hammel Larson at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Catholic church in Waukon. She attended St. Patrick’s Catholic school through sixth grade before graduating from Waukon High School in 1986. 


She received a scholarship to play basketball at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and was serving as captain of the Omaha Fire Department at the time of her death.  

She is survived by spouse, Ingrid C. Olson; stepson, Jamison Olson; mother, Joanne Hammel Larson; siblings: Susan Bizjack (Mike), Eric Larson (fiancée, Gloria Herrera), and Amy Regan (Jack); nieces and nephews: McKenna, Donovan, and Kennedy Bizjack, Jakob, Avery, and Jaxon Regan, and Brennan Hartley; other relatives and many friends.

The family received friends Friday, May 16th, from 4-8 the West Center Chapel of Heafey Hoffmann Dworak Cutler Mortuaries in Omaha.  Services were held Saturday, May 17th at 11 a.m. at Countryside Community Church, Omaha. Memorials can be sent to Captain Laura M. Larson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
