Girls golf victorious, boys struggle against Clayton Ridge
In the last home meet of the year, the MFL MarMac Bulldog boys golf team failed to get the win or the medals, as the Clayton Ridge boys claimed both in a 170-226 victory May 5.
Cade Kuenster led the way for the Bulldogs with a 52. Brayde Miller shot a 55 and Devin Huinker a 57. Austin Bernhard shot a 62 to round out the 226. For junior varsity, Logan Taylor shot a 59 and JP Murphy a 58.
For Clayton Ridge, Josh Werges was the medalist with a 41 and runner up Jake Jensen shot a 42, as did teammate Andrew Burgin. Jensen had a lower score on a high handicap hole. Colten Connelly shot a 45 to round out the 170 for Clayton Ridge. None of Clayton Ridge’s 13 golfers shot over 56.
That day, the MFL MarMac girls won their fourth dual meet in five tries, besting Clayton Ridge 214-239. Annie Berns and Chloe Landt were the medalists with each shooting a 52. Lexi Dettbarn shot a 53 and Mollie Ward’s 57 finished off the girls score. Kayla Keehner shot a 58 and Bailey Martins a 59 as the other top six scorers.
With only five golfers, Clayton Ridge couldn’t muster a score better than a 58 from Brianna Finnegan. Kelsey Bockenstedt had a 59, Amanda Auer a 60 and Sierra Smith a 62 to round out the team score.
Girls golf bests West Central, boys fall
The MFL MarMac golfers traveled to Big Rock to take on West Central May 6.
The boys got under 50 performances from Devin Huinker with a 45 and Brayde Miller with a 46. Cade Kuenster shot a 56 and JP Murphy shot a season low 51, as the boys scored 198.
Sadly, West Central had three boys who navigated the course under 45. Hud Johnston was the medalist with a 36 and Chase Grimm with a 38 was runner-up. Kaleb Kime shot a 43 for third best. Dustin Gordan, Brady Forsyth and Dustin Richards all shot a 49.
The girls gained the victory over the two-woman West Central team. Annie Berns of MFL MarMac was the medalist with a 51 and Lexi Dettbarn was awarded runner-up with a 53. Mollie Ward shot a 59 and Bailey Martins a 65 for the team 228.
West Central got two good matches out of Beth Meyer with a 53 and Cheriden Brinckman with a 57.
