Lora Mager, 58, of Elkader, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point. She was born June 27, 1955, in Waterloo, to Leland and Edie (Nye) Smith. Lora graduated from Dunkerton High School in 1973. In later years, she attended college at NICC in Calmar, earning her degree in data processing.
On September 22, 1973, Lora was united in marriage to Wayne Mager at the First Baptist Church in Dunkerton. Two children were born to this union. The couple lived in Dunkerton before moving to Elkader in 1975.
Lora worked at the Area Education Agency (AEA 1) in Elkader, as a secretary. Lora was a “family” person. She enjoyed spending time with family and she especially loved her grandchildren. She liked walking, riding her bike, traveling, hiking and camping. Lora was a devoted member of her church, Grace Evangelical Free Church, in Elkader.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne of Elkader; children, Aaron (Heather) Mager of Adel and Jody (Curt) Dvorak of Dexter; three grandchildren Caden and Camryn Mager and Mila Dvorak; six siblings, Rebecca (Alen) Nagel of Waterloo, Douglas (Candy) Smith of Broomfield, CO, Calvin (Denise) Smith of Dunkerton, Lela (Scott) Pettit of Waterloo, Larry (Christine) Smith of Anchorage, AK and Sheryl Wallace of Dunkerton; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Lora was preceded in death by her parents and step father, Morris Adams.
Visitation was held from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader and one hour before services at the church on Friday. Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014, at the 1st Baptist Church in Dunkerton, Iowa, with Pastor Mark Lee officiating. Interment followed at the Fairview-Lester Cemetery - Dunkerton, Iowa. Casket bearers were Curt Dvorak, Jeremie Nagel, Jason Nagel, Scott Joens, Kyle Smith and Daniel Smith. Honorary casket bearers were Caden Mager, Alec Smith, Jonah Smith, Stuart Smith, Micah Smith and Keith Joens.
