Wauzeka-Steuben announces 2014 valedictorian and salutatorian

Graduation for the Wauzeka-Steuben High School Class of 2014 will be held on Saturday, May 24, at 1 p.m. in the Hornets’ Nest. Awards Day will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 23, same location.

Kylie Rose Reising has been named the valedictorian and Lucas LaVern Klema has been named salutatorian for the Wauzeka-Steuben High School 2014 graduating class.

Kylie is the daughter of Marc and Karen Reising. Kylie has been an active, goal-oriented student throughout her high school career earning Academic Honors all four years of high school and a place on the Ridge-and-Valley Academic All-Conference First Team.

Not only has Kylie been a leader in academics, she has also participated in two sports, and six co-curricular school groups. Kylie has been a football cheerleader for four years, serving as co-captain and earning a varsity letter. She has also earned a varsity letter in softball during her three years on the team. Kylie has been an eight-year talented and dedicated band member, and a welcome member of the National Honor Society and Student Council (where she serves both as secretary), Math Team, and Yearbook Club (where she serves as treasurer/business manager).

She has also been a leader in FFA, in which she serves as treasurer and has earned the Blue and Gold, the Star Green Hand, and the Most Active Member awards. To further demonstrate Kylie’s ability to achieve excellence throughout an already extremely busy life, she has held part-time employment throughout most of high school.

Kylie has been accepted to Viterbo University, where she plans to major in clinical laboratory science. She said, “My family has always supported me and encouraged me to do my best. They have helped me so much. I could not have gotten where I am without my mom and dad. Mrs. Sjoberg has also helped me a lot this year. After school I can usually be found working in her room. She is always willing to help me no matter how busy she is.”

Lucas Klema, son of Donald Klema and Michelle and Brandon Routt, has earned academic honors all four years of high school. Lucas has been a member of the Math Team all four years of high school. He made the Ridge-and-Valley Academic All-Conference Second Team. He has also been active in Yearbook Club. He served as the reporter for FFA this year, his fourth year of membership.

Lucas participated in baseball all four years of high school on the varsity team. In basketball, he participated three years and was on varsity this year. He was in football this year and served as varsity co-captain.

He is often busy outside of school with community and family events. Lucas played a large part in the fundraising and building of the new Eastman Ball Park and facilities. Lucas has been accepted to the Milwaukee School of Engineering and UW-Madison Mechanical Engineering programs. He has not yet decided which he will attend, but added, “My parents have always pushedme to do my best and always tried to encourage me do better. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
