William “Bill” White
William Charles “Bill” White, 83, of Elkader, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at the Elkader Care Center. Bill was born August 7, 1930, in Highland Park, MI, to Clyde and Martha (Shea) White, and he was baptized there. Within his first year of life, the family moved to the family farm in rural Elkader. In 1941, they moved to Dubuque. Bill was confirmed and attended Loras Academy while living there. The family lived in Dubuque until 1948, when they moved back to the family farm. He served honorably in the United States Navy, from 1955 to 1957.
He was a lifelong farmer. Bill was united in marriage to Geraldine (Jerry) Green, on July 6, 1963, in Detroit, MI. Bill loved to socialize and later in life liked to travel to Ireland, Washington, D.C., Michigan, Florida and Colorado.
Survivors include his wife, Jerry of Elkader; children, Robert Joseph White of Elkader, Barbara Ann (Allen) Stagman of Patch Grove, WI, Bridget Marie Koester of West Union, Elizabeth Kay (Carl) Petsche of Volga, Brian James (Cathy) White of Elkader, Bradley William (Jill) White of Monticello and Bernard Patrick (Melodie) White of Volga; sister, Rosemary Carmody of Houston, TX, Roger (Mary Ann) White of Fowlerville, MI, and many friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Jim Carmody.
There was a mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Volga. Visitation was Wednesday, April 30, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader with a rosary at 4 p.m. and after 10 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
