Richard J. "Dick" Cherrier
Richard J. “Dick” Cherrier, 76, of Prairie du Chien passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 27, at his home.
He was born Oct. 24, 1937 in Prairie du Chien the son of Clarence and Anastasia (Phillip) Cherrier. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Jackie Selheim on Jan. 24, 1959 at St. Bernard’s Church in Madison. Dick worked as an electrician for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad which would later become the Union Pacific. He retired after over 30 years of service in 2000. Dick enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles and spending time on the Mississippi River.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jackie Cherrier of Prairie du Chien; his children, Jolene (Michael) Rhea of Tomah, Steve (Mary) of Oelwein, Iowa, Michael (Terri Hartel) of Madison and Tom (Trish) of Oelwein; a brother Raymond of Brighton, Iowa; ten grandchildren; three step grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Clement and Kenneth.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 30, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Rev. James Weighner officiating with interment on Thursday, May 1, at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona, Wis. Military Honors will be accorded following the Mass by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday, April 30, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Holy Family Parish Capital Campaign. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
