Bulldogs boys track competes at Decorah
The MFL MarMac boys track team competed at the Decorah Invitational on April 21, finishing in sixth place.
The bright spot of the meet was Cody Mason in the 110 hurdles, as he ran a 15.79 time to win that event.
The Bulldogs best finisher in the 100 meter dash was eighth. They ran out of the points in the 200 meter dash as well. The 400 meter dash saw Matt Meyer run a close second, finishing 10 hundredths of a second behind the winner. Todd Walleser also grabbed fifth in the race. Bulldog Sam Pfeiffer sat out the 800. Tristen Close finished that race in seventh place. He was also seventh in the 3200 meter. In the 400 meter hurdles, Cody Mason was fourth at 1:00.12 and Tristen Kautman was fifth.
In the field events, no points were scored in the discus, long jump or shot put. Noah Schultz and David Bradford high jumped with heights of 5 feet 6 inches to finish in a three-way tie for fifth.
In the relays, the Bulldogs’ 4x100 team of Jordan Talbot, Kautman, Noah Schultz and Bryce Burke finished fifth at 49.04. The 4x200 team of Talbot, Seth Heying, Chase Stubbs and Isaac Sauer ran a sixth place 1:42.97. In the 4x800, the Bulldogs were fourth at 9:20.89, with Sam Pfeiffer, Bryce Decker, Adam Greener and Matt Meyer running that time. In the 440 shuttle hurdle, the Bulldogs were third at 1:06.97, with Burke, Austin Schoulte, Kautman and Mason posting that time. The 1600 distance medley relay of Schultz, Burke, Meyer and Pfeiffer was third at 3:58.53.
The final point totals had Decorah first with 174 points. Osage had 101, South Winneshiek 82, Waukon 72, Crestwood 69 and MFL MarMac 51.
Girls track runs at Kee Invite
The MFL MarMac girls track team ran fourth of four teams at the Kee Invitational on April 22, scoring 42 points.
Haley Vogt won the 100 meter race with a time of 12.87 and Jasmine Stocker was fourth at 13.68. The Bulldogs got a fifth place finish out of Goldie Farmer in the 200 meter, as she ran a 32.57 time. Farmer also ran fourth in the 400 meter at 1:15.29. The 800 meter saw Chaun’te Drahn finish second with a 2:47.52 time. Marissa Lechtenberg, with a 6:45.46 time, was third in the 1500 meter and second in the 3000 meter with a 14:29.24.
The Bulldog girls won the 4x100 relay with a 57.46 time, the 4x200 with a 1.54.66 time and the 800 sprint medley relay with a 2:04.77.
West Central won the invitational with 82 points. De Soto, Wis., was second with 58 and Kee was third with 55.
Boys track finishes first at Kee Invite
The Bulldog boys, competing against five other teams in the April 22 Kee Invitational, placing first with a 149.33 score.
Noah Schultz finished third in the 100 meter with a 11.73 time. Matt Meyer and Austin Schoulte finished two-three, in the 200 meter, with Meyer clipping Schoulte with a 25.15 to 25.19 performance. Meyer then won the 400 meter with a 54.64 time. Tristen Kautman was fifth at 59.40. Meyer then scored a second place finish in the 800 meter with a 2:11.32 time. Meyer scored 28 meet points to lead the Bulldog charge.
With no Cody Mason in the 110 hurdles, Corbin Gardner finished fourth for the Bulldogs at 21.42. The Bulldogs finished second and fifth in the 1600 meter with Sam Pfieffer second at 5:09.97 and Ashton Houg fifth at 5:39.26. The 3200 meter had Brian Ayers running 12:51.32 for third and Andre Heins at 14:26.59 for sixth. The 400 meter hurdles had Mason in second at 1:00.97 and Kautman in fourth at 1:05.86.
In the field events, Gatlin Keehner and Isaac Greener were third and fourth in the discus, with Keehner going 124-06 and Greener 110-04. Schultz was second in the high jump, going 5-04.05. David Bradford and Kautman each jumped 5 feet even. Isaac Sauer long jumped a 17-10 for second. Greener was third in the shot put with a 37-02 throw.
In the relays, the Bulldogs were third in the 4x100 at 48.95 and fourth in the 4x200 at 1:43.94. The 4x400 team of Mason, Todd Walleser, Kautman and Schoulte ran 3:46.82 to win the event. In the 4x60 shuttle hurdles, the Bulldogs were first with 1:11.20. Bradford, Bryce Burke, Chase Stubbs and Kautman ran that time. The 4x800 team was second, running 9:20.93. The Bulldogs were fourth in the 1600 distance medley, running that in 4:13.42.
The Bulldogs were first at the meet with 149.33 total points, followed by Clayton Ridge at 139, Central Elkader 81.33, Kee 76, West Central 54.33 and De Soto 32.
Boys track finishes seventh at NFV Invite
The Bulldog boys track team competed at the North Fayette Valley Invitational in West Union April 24, finishing seventh of nine teams.
Noah Schultz was eighth in the 100 meter with a 12.29 time. Matt Meyer was sixth in the 400 meter, running a 55.53. Cody Mason was first in the 110 meter hurdles, well ahead of the second place runner by almost a half second, with a time of 15.72. The Bulldogs also grabbed points with an eight place 5:07.19 1600 meter finish from Sam Pfeiffer. Mason was fourth in the 400 meter hurdles at 59.26.
In the field events, the Bulldogs placed third in the high jump, with David Bradford going 5-06.00, as did Schultz, who tied for fifth at the same height. The Bulldogs did not place in the throwing events or long jump.
In the relays, the 4x200 team was sixth at 1:39.82. The 4x400 team was eighth, the shuttle hurdle team finished second and the 1600 sprint medley team was eighth.
North Fayette Valley won the meet with a total of 159 points, followed by Decorah with 145, South Winneshiek with 101, Waukon with 66, Clayton Ridge with 64.50, Sumner-Fredericksburg with 56, MFL MarMac with 42,50, Turkey Valley with 38 and Starmont with 24.
Vogts run well at NFV Invite
The undermanned MFL MarMac Bulldog girls track team traveled to West Union on April 24 to compete at the North Fayette Co-ed Invitational. The Bulldogs, a scrappy team with 12 members, scored 36 points, finishing in sixth place.
Hayley Vogt had one of the Bulldogs’ highest point values, winning the 100 meter in 13.27 seconds. Jasmine Stocker finished sixth with a 14.50 time. In the 200 meter, Madelyn Vogt finished second and scored eight points with a 28.33 time. Chaun’te Drahn finished sixth in the 400 meter at 1:11.38. Drahn was just short of the points in the 800 meter, finishing seventh. In the 1500 meter, Marissa Lechtenberg was fifth at 6:07.12, as well as fifth in the 3000 meter with a 14:18.30 time.
In the 4x200 relay, the Bulldogs were fourth at 1:57.93. The girls finished third in the 800 sprint medley relay at 2:03.67.
South Winneshiek won the meet with 147 total points, followed by North Fayette Valley with 144, Starmont with 106, Waukon with 78, Sumner-Fredericksburg with 77 and then MFL MarMac.
