Boys golf drops double dual meet
For the Monday, April 21 meet against Postville and South Winneshiek, the boy’s portion was played at Tri-City Golf Course in Luana.
The Bulldogs struggled on the course, shooting a team score of 262. Brayde Miller shot a 60 to lead the Bulldogs, while Devin Huinker was second at 61. Cade Kuenster was third at 65 and Nathan McGlaughlin, at 76, was fourth.
South Winn’s Logan Schweinefuss and Nick Winter were the meet’s two medalists, leading their team to a 151 total score.
The Postville Pirates finished second with a 223 team score.
Girls golf second at Ossian double dual
The Bulldog girls traveled to Ossian’s Silver Springs Golf Course April 21 to face Postville and South Winneshiek. The South Winn girls scored a 198 to win both ends. The Bulldogs were second at 235 and Postville scored 242. The meet medalists were South Winn’s Megan Hageman with a 47 and Caitlyn Holien with a 48.
The Bulldog girls were led by Annie Berns with a 52. Berns played a consistent nine, playing the lower half at 20 strokes and 32 over the upper part of the course. Chloe Landt was the next best Bulldog at 58. Mollie Ward was third at 61. Fourth was Lexi Dettbarn with a 64. The last two varsity scores were Bailey Martins with a 68 and Kylie Moose with a 70.
Boys golf falls to Waukon
Waukon’s Carter Clark shot a 5 over par 39 to lead the Waukon Indian boys to a 184-232 victory over the Bulldogs April 22 at Tri-City Golf Course.
MFL MarMac’s best score was the fourth best of the match, as Brayde Miller shot a 49. Devin Huinker was second best at 55, with a nine on the first hole his only real trouble. Cade Kuenster was third. Nathan McGlaughlin was fourth best with a 66. Other varsity scores were Austin Bernhard with a 71 and Chris Larson with a 84.
Mason Schlake, also of Waukon, was the runner-up medalist with a 47 and Luke Zezulka was third at 48.
Girls golf bests Waukon
The Bulldog girls golf team scored a 232-233 victory over Waukon April 22, with Annie Berns and Lexi Dettbarn shooting 54s to co-medal. They edged out Waukon’s Jenny Bartling and Leslie Sivesind, who both shot a 55. Emily Hanson shot a 63 for the Bulldogs and Bailey Martins a 61.
Golf teams play at three-way meet
The MFL MarMac boys golf team traveled to West Union Country Club to play a three way meet with Sumner-Fredericksburg and North Fayette Valley (NFV) April 25.
The meet medalist was Sumner-Fredericksburg’s Jalen Tranbarger with a 38. The Runner up was NFV’s Kendrick Bemiss with a 43.
Sumner-Fredericksburg won the meet with Tranbarger’s 38, leading the way to a 178 score. NFV’s team score was 180.
The Bulldogs’ best golfer was Brayde Miller with a 50. The Bulldogs scored a season best 239 with solid efforts from Miller and Devin Huinker with a 55. Cade Kuenster had a 62 for third best.
This was the final scheduled road meet for the boys.
The girls golf team also travelled to Pleasant Valley Golf course in Elgin to compete against NFV and Sumner-Fredericksburg. Juniors Annie Berns, Lexi Dettbarn and Chole Landt, as well as sophomore Mollie Ward, shot under 60, as the girls shot a season low 222 team score.
Berns scored a 53, Dettbarn and Ward 55 and Landt 59.
The medalist was Miya Marshall with 44 but McKenna Lembke, the runner-up for NFV, led her team with a 46, and NFV clipped Sumner-Fred 197-198.
