Robert Kiesau

Robert Paul Henry Kiesau, 76, Monona, Iowa, died Sunday, April 13, at Gundersen Lutheran Health Systems, La Crosse.

Bob was born on July 5, 1937, in Monona, Iowa, to Paul and Mary (Nagel) Kiesau and was raised by his maternal grandparents, Elba and Nellie (Land) Nagel. He graduated from Monona-Farmersburg High School with the class of 1955. Following high school, Bob attended Barber College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and was then employed at the Rose Barbershop in Monona. 

Bob was united in marriage to Betty Jarms on Oct. 20, 1958, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. He was baptized at the Methodist Church in Monona, and later confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, in 1959. Bob farmed for many years near Monona, until he retired in Monona.

In retirement, Bob enjoyed painting, working at Nelson True Value, Kregel Auction Services and doing custodial work for Northeast Iowa Telephone Co. and St. Paul Lutheran Church. He served on the Monona Fire Department, Monona Co-op Board, Monona Cemetery Board and held several offices at St. Paul Lutheran Church including President of the Congregation and director of the Sunday School Program. Bob was also an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. 

Bob was an associate at the Leonard – Grau Funeral Home in Monona, having over twenty-five years of experience in funeral service. He became a fixture at the funeral home working visitations, helping with funerals and assisting the directors whenever they needed his help. The community of Monona along with the neighboring communities, expected to see Bob at all visitations and funerals. His ability to make people smile and console them in a time of need will be greatly missed by not only the community of Monona, but his co-workers here at the funeral home. 

Survivors include his wife, Betty Kiesau, Monona; three children, Bill (Crystal) Kiesau, Walker, Iowa, Barb (Steven) Friederich, Postville, Brad (Pam) Kiesau, Prairie du Chien; five grandchildren, Colton Kiesau, Corby and Troy Friederich and Morgan and Logan Kiesau; two half-brothers, Bob Smith and Mark (Jodee) Smith; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joanne (Harold) Vorwald and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Jarms. 

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary (Nagel) Kiesau; his maternal grandparents, Elba and Nellie (Land) Nagel; brother-in-law, Don Jarms and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marlys (Bob) Frye.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 15, at the Leonard – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 16, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa. Burial followed in the Monona Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
