“This meet was a great chance for us to be able to practice and compete in a good facility when our practices during the week have been nearly all indoor adaptations to actual track/field events,” Coach Martha Bauder said. “We try not to stress the competition aspect, just get some good conditioning in and as an added bonus we get to see how we’re doing compared to other teams in our conference.

Overall, we did a very good job with six best of season marks, six better than last year at this meet, and 11 individual PRs.  Rachel Berg had a great night with three PRs, while Hannah Kuehl, Abby Gifford, Ashley Funk, Megan Nemechek, Darci Eberhardt Morgan Jacobson, Grace Rodman, and Anna Tuecke each had one personal record.”

On March 29 the girls returned to Luther for an indoor meet with the following results:

“Once again, this is a meet where we try to focus on conditioning and just getting more experience in a good facility for this early in the season,” Coach Bauder said. “Often times Saturday meets are just not quite as energetic as mid-week meets, but we did excellent today. Nearly everyone had three or four events, so there were many chances for season bests and personal records. We had better marks in six events over last year’s marks and we had 12 personal records or ties for personal records. “

“Probably the biggest highlight would be the last race of the day where the 4 x 4 team of Stender, Juergens, Asche, and Schroeder set a new meet record with a very good time for this early in the season,” Coach Bauder continued. “Also, individually, Ashley Funk had a very impressive race in the 3000 m run where she led the whole race. She was followed extremely closely by a South Winn girl the entire 15 laps, but with one lap to go Ashley dug down and found another gear to win the race by about three strides. That is especially significant because she cut over 10 seconds off her last 3000 m race. It’s extremely difficult mentally to stay ahead of your competition for 15 laps when they are right on your hip the whole way.”

“Katja Graner had a great day by recording three personal records for herself while Megan Rochleau had two personal records.  Kinsey Juergens tied two personal records, and Morgan Jacobson , Darci Eberhardt and Alyssa Barker each had one personal record. Anna Tuecke also had a good day in high jump where she tied her personal record with an excellent 5’0” jump for the second time this year.”
