Gary L. Scott

 

Gary L. Scott, 57, of Prairie du Chien passed away Saturday, March 22, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, after an extended illness. 

He was born Feb. 4, 1957 in Prairie du Chien the son of William and Margaret (Sebastian) Scott. Gary became an inspiration to many, after being paralyzed in an automobile accident at the age of 16. He spent the next 41 years as a quadriplegic. He was an established artist who touched many lives even through his immobility. His tattoos were his trademark and Gary was a huge fan of Pete’s hamburgers.

He is survived by his brothers, Terry (Vicki) Seeley, Rick Seeley and Bob Scott all of Prairie du Chien; his sisters, Chris (Jerry) Foley of Prairie du Chien, Pat (Andrew) Johnson of Garnavillo, Iowa, Connie Schultz of Whitehall, Brenda Boecke of McGregor, Iowa and Kathy Scott of Prairie du Chien; nieces and nephews; and his faithful companions Lucky and Spike. He was preceded in death by his parents; a niece Tammy Foley and his aunt Agnes Sebastian. Gary’s motto was “Contented with little, yet wishing for more.” 

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in his name and can be directed to 1405 S. 18th St., Prairie du Chien, WI 53821. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
