Francis Henry Wagner
Francis Henry Wagner, 90, Elkader, Iowa formerly of Lansing, Iowa died Monday, March 17, 2014, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, Iowa. Francis was born on September 9, 1923, in Lafayette Township, rural Lansing, Iowa to Henry and Mary (Donahue) Wagner. He attended Russell Country School through the eighth grade.
Francis was united in marriage to Alberta Unterberger on October 6, 1947, at St. Pius-Cherry Mound Catholic Church. Five children were born to this union. Francis and Alberta farmed together and raised their family on the family farm until 1987. They retired to Waukon, Iowa and in later years, Francis, moved to Elkader, Iowa. Francis was a life-long member of Wexford-Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, playing cards, dancing and traveling. He loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by the many people who knew him.
Survivors include four children, Linda Stowe, Maple Grove, MN, Fran (Dr. Kenneth) Zichal, Elkader, IA, Greg (Barb) Wagner, Buffalo, MN, Mary Lynn (Bruce) ReVoir, Waukon, IA; one daughter-in-law, Marilyn Clarkin, Onalaska, WI; sixteen grandchildren, Laura (Aaron) Gilles, Mark (fiancé, Vanessa) Stowe, Gregory (Kellie) Stowe, Heather Zichal, Dr. Ernie (Angela) Zichal, Leah Wagner, Lindsay Nickson, Paula Wagner, Dan Wagner, Landon (April) Erickson, Alan Wagner, Dr. Rachel (Nick) Gardner, Matt (fiancé, Michelle) Wagner, Rebekah (Navid) Aliaghai, Russell (fiancé, Jen) ReVoir, Rosemary (fiancé, Adam) ReVoir; nine great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Bernadette Unterberger, Shell Rock, IA and one brother-in-law, LeRoy McCabe, Waukon, IA.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alberta Wagner on March 6, 1991; one son, Alan Wagner; one son-in-law, Michael Stowe and his three siblings, Mark (Mary) Wagner, Rosemary Wagner and Marcella McCabe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Wexford Foundation and the Central Community Hospital Foundation.
Visitation was Thursday, March 20, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. with a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service at the Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Lansing, Iowa. There was also a one hour visitation before mass time at the church on Friday.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 21, 201,4 at Wexford-Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, rural Lansing, Iowa. The Rev. John Moser was the celebrant. Interment was at the Wexford-Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Cemetery, rural Lansing, Iowa.
