Arnold B. Schmidt

Arnold B. Schmidt, 97, of Dubuque, formerly of North Buena Vista, died peacefully, Monday, March 10, 2014, at 6:21 p.m. at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque.

Visitation was before services at the church hall.

Funeral services were Thursday, March 13, at Immaculate Conception Church in North Buena Vista, conducted by Rev. Marvin J. Bries.

Burial was in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, North Buena Vista.

Behr Funeral Home, Dubuque, was in charge of arrangements.

Arnold was born on May 14, 1916, in North Buena Vista, son of Joseph L. and Cecelia (Wolter) Schmidt.

Arnold proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was co-owner of F&S Radiator Repair and retired after 40 years of work. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, playing euchre and was proud to be a "River Rat." He joyfully devoted time every year to help create crafts for the Buenie Picnic. He was a member of the American Legion Post #137 of Dyersville and Immaculate Conception Church.

Arnold is survived by his brother, Henry (Doris) Schmidt, SunValley, Ariz.; his sister, Cecilia "Ceil" Hirsch, Dubuque, and many nieces and nephews.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers and sisters, Sylvia, Loretta, Louise, Helen, Ray, Larry, Julie and Alois.

In lieu of flowers an Arnold B. Schmidt memorial fund has been established.

The family of Arnold would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque and the nurses and staff of Stonehill Care Center for all their loving care of Arnold.
