Cappie Eugene Millin

 

Cappie Eugene Millin, 91, Prairie du Chien, died Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. 

He was born on July 12, 1922 to Dwight and Edith (Andrews) Millin in Patch Grove. Cappie graduated Valedictorian from Patch Grove High School in 1940. He entered the United States Navy in 1940, served as an Airplane Mechanic in World War II, and was honorably discharged on Nov. 27, 1946.

Cappie was united in marriage with Clara “Katie” Harper on April 26, 1943 in Miami, Fla. Three daughters were born to this union, Diane, Donna and Sally. Katie later passed away on March 3, 1985. He then married Catherine “Bette” Ahrens on Sept. 25, 1987 in Madison. She passed away on March 30, 1992. Cappie married Marjorie “Marge” Myers on Jan. 4, 1999 in Prairie du Chien, and she passed away September 4, 2009.

Cappie was a mechanic for Lochner & Schneyer, and Lochner Motors for thirty-nine years, retiring in 1984. He also worked at Starks Sport Shop part-time, putting Honda’s together. He was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion, the Eagle’s Club and attended the Methodist church in Prairie du Chien. He enjoyed stock car racing, go-kart racing, reading, playing cards, and Chicago Cubs baseball games. 

Cappie is survived by his two daughters, Diane (Stephen Miller) Long of Prairie du Chien and Sally Samarin of Orange, Calif.; five grandchildren, Jacob (Carrie) Samarin, Katie (special friend, Brian) Samarin, Shane (special friend, Julie) Long, Tracy (Joanna) Long and Tammy (special friend, Dave) Long; six great-grandchildren, Tad Long, Lindsey (Cory) Anderson, Michelle Long, Tyler Long, Katlyn Long and Cameron Long and two great-great grandchildren, Drake and Wyatt Anderson.

Cappie was preceded in death by his three wives; an infant daughter, Donna; two sons-in-law, Bill Long and Stephen Ragsdale; his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charlie and Glennie Harper.

Visitation will be on Saturday, March 15, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Prairie du Chien.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Prairie du Chien, with Rev. Joe Irvin and Deacon Pat Malanaphy as the Officiants. Burial will be at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Prairie du Chien.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prairie du Chien Hospice or Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital Building Fund.
