Taylor Elliott, the first four-time state qualifier in Prairie du Chien history, took second place at the State Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison this past weekend.

Elliott entered the tournament with a 39-1 record this season at 113 pounds. He pinned Rice Lake’s Luke Schroeder in 1:17 in the quarterfinals on Friday morning, and then edged East Troy’s Cody Vogel 4-0 in the semifinals Friday night.

Elliott lost in the championship match Saturday night 10-3 to sophomore Hunter Marko of Amery in a rematch of last year’s 106-pound title match.

Elliott finished his fine season with a 41-2 record. Earlier this season, Elliott set the all-time wins record for Prairie du Chien. He finished his stellar career with a 151-24 mark.

“What Taylor has done in his career is absolutely awesome,” said Coach Clay Koenig. “A four-time qualifier, a three-time medalist, and a two-time finalist speaks volumes to how good he really was. What is great about his success is that he never took a short cut to anything. He worked as hard as anyone. And, anyone who saw his drive would be absolutely floored. Had he not run into a high nationally ranked kid the last two years in the finals, there is no doubt in my mind that he would have had at least one gold medal, if not two. If you want a young kid to have a role model in the classroom and on the mat, Taylor would be my choice.”
