cheerleaders get third at State
The Prairie du Chien Basketball Cheerleaders competed on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the WACPC (Wisconsin Association of Cheer and Pom Coaches) State Cheer Championships at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
This is the first time the cheerleaders have competed at the state level. The team competed in the non-stunt division. There were six teams in that division, the top three took home trophies. Prairie du Chien earned third place!
Coach Kelli Saxe said, “This competition was so much fun! The cheer mats were up on a stage, and when the girls were introduced out onto the floor the lights dimmed and colored spotlights circled the stage and fog rolled out from behind the curtains. It was quite an introduction! The spectators for the team were allowed to come right up by the stage, just like a concert, it was so cool! I am so proud that we placed in the top three our first time at state competition. The girls have put a lot of work into this and were very deserving. We hope we made Prairie du Chien proud!”
Everyone is invited to catch the cheer team’s competition routines at this Sunday’s Fourth Annual Blackhawk Bleacher Bash at Prairie du Chien High School at 2 p.m. This is a show the Hawkettes put on as a fund-raiser that has cheer and dance performances by the local teams and other area cheer and dance teams.
Admission is only $3. This is a family-friendly event. The girls hope everyone will show support to their teams and come enjoy their show.
