Walter D. Skaife, 96, of Prairie du Chien passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 23, 1917 in Waterloo Township, the son of Jesse and Carrie (Wilhelm) Skaife. He married Arleen Nagle on April 7, 1945 at St. Mary’s Church in La Crosse. Together they farmed for many years in the Patch Grove area and Walt later retired from 3M Company in Prairie du Chien. He was a talented woodworker and craftsman.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 69 years, Arleen of Prairie du Chien; his children, Sherry (Don Krakauskas) Skaife of Mesa, Ariz, Robert (Laurine) Skaife of Rio Verde, Ariz, Sheila (Charles) Bishell of Lancaster, and Mike (Coleen) Skaife of Prairie du Chien; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Lloyd, Howard, Don and Roland Skaife.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Feb. 23, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Prairie du Chien, Pastor Mike Christensen officiating, with burial in the Union Nagle Cemetery in Patch Grove. Friends may call on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien and at the church on Sunday, Feb. 23, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services.
