Daniel B. Garrity


 A well known regional businessman, Daniel B. Garrity, 67, of Bloomington, Minn. died unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 13. 

He was born April 3, 1946 in Prairie du Chien, the son of the late Robert and Marion (Fournier) Garrity. He graduated from Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien where he excelled as an all-state athlete, and later from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn. with BS in Mortuary Science. He married Karen Ostrem on, Feb. 8, 1969 in Minneapolis. He served in the U.S. Air National Guard in the Twin Cities area. Dan became a renowned, regional figure in the funeral profession serving as a funeral director and embalmer for several firms; he was an established casket and vault salesman, working for Aurora, Artco and most recently Brown Wilbert. His familiar and easy-going manner endeared him to all he met. 

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen Garrity; his children, Cassie, Brian (Teresa), Shannon, Cullen (Jenny); three grandchildren, Maddie, Ellie, Jeylen; nine brothers and sisters, Tim, Peggy, Bridget (Lee), Kevin (Judy), Sheila, Maura, Katie, Mike, Brendan (Lisa); uncle, Dr. Mike (Mary Ann) Garrity; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dan was a devout man of faith, loving son, devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather and brother who will be sadly missed by all.

A Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, 9900 Lyndale Avenue South, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Mueller Parkway Chapel, 835 Johnson Parkway, St. Paul and also one hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday at the church. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Sharing and Caring Hands and VEAP.
