Bulldogs sweep Warriors on Cancer Awareness Night

The MFL MarMac Bulldog girls and boys had an easy time of it on Friday, Jan. 31, as they hosted the Central Warriors and won both varsity games. 

 

The Bulldog girls were up first, and they opened up a 13-3 lead after one quarter and were up 25-12 at halftime. The Central girls never scored more than nine points in a quarter, as the Bulldogs cruised to a 46-30 victory. 

 

Madelyn Vogt led the Bulldogs with 14 points, while her sister Haley Vogt had 10 points. Kiana Stender had eight points to lead Central.

 

The Bulldog girls are now 10-4. The game did not count for the conference standings.

 

The boys’ game included a 23-0 Bulldog run at one point in the second quarter, as they cruised to an 81-40 victory over the Warrior boys. 

 

Cody Mason had a double- double, with 22 points and 10 rebounds, to lead the Bulldogs. Brandon Schneider added 14. 

 

The Bulldogs’ record is now 12-2. 

 

Activities with Cancer Awareness night included a Wall of Honor and Memory to remember those touched by cancer. There was also a chili cook-off sponsored by the Booster Club. The “Golden Ladle” was won by Erin Zeeh. The Bulldog Dance Team did a kick routine to “kick out cancer.” 

 

This week finds the Bulldog girls hosting Waukon on Thursday, Feb. 6. Both teams will play Postville at home on Friday, Feb. 7. The boys play Prairie du Chien in a makeup game on Saturday, Feb. 8. The ninth grade game will start at 4 p.m., followed by JV and varsity. Monday, Feb. 10 finds Starmont coming to Monona to play both teams. On Tuesday, Feb. 11, the boys will travel to Sumner and the girls will host North Fayette Valley.  On Friday, Feb. 14, the boys finish the season with a home game with Decorah. The girls’ first round playoff game with South Winneshiek is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Monona on Saturday, Feb. 15.
