Richard Stodola

 

Richard J. Stodola, 81, of Elkader, died Saturday, January 25, 2014, at his home in Elkader. He was born March 11, 1932, in Barron, WI, to Adolph and Carrie (Posta) Stodola. He graduated from Rice Lake (WI) High School in 1950. He could build a home from bottom to top. Richard was owner and operator of his own construction business for over 35 years; first Four Square Construction and then Stodola Floor Sanding.  

Richard was united in marriage to Mary Lynn Lauing on February 19, 1956, in Sarona, WI. Four children were born to this union.

He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.  Gardening was a special interest, especially picking raspberries with grandchildren. Visiting a farm and watching people farm was also a favorite pastime.  Richard spent 55 years building Kingdom Hall. 

He is survived by his wife Mary Lynn of Elkader; son, Craig (Linda) Stodola of Elkader; daughter, Nola (Wayne) Buchanan of Denver, CO; son, Adrian (Charlene) Stodola of Prairie du Chien, WI; and daughter, Nicole (special friend, Jerry Weber) Sylvester of Elkader; nine grandchildren, Melissa Kobliska, Michael Stodola, Jonathan Stodola, Anndraya Stodola, Connor Stodola, Ryan Stodola, Richard (Johanna) Buchanan of Sweden, Austin Sylvester and Zowie Sylvester; great-grandchildren, Khole Stodola, Willow Kobliska, Iris Kobliska and Branch Kobliska; sisters, Evelyn Hauck of Rick Lake, WI, Dorothy Huerth of Rice Lake, WI, Mardell Brunette, of Rice Lake, WI and brother, Don Stodola of Chippewa Falls, WI.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Herman Stodola, Ira Stodola, Adolph Stodola, Ted Stodola, Victor Stodola and Albert Stodola, and three sisters, Loretta Glessing, Irene Poulter and Jean Lindgren.

Memorial services were Saturday, February 1, at 2 p.m., at Kingdom Hall, Elkader. Visitation was held there one hour before services.
