The MFL MarMac Bulldog boys started their Jan. 24 game against Sumner-Fredericksburg sluggishly, falling behind 6-0 early, but then reeled off a 9-0 run of their own, en route to a 68-60 victory. The Cougars ripped off another 6-0 run before the first quarter ended, but the game was tied at 12, thanks to a Tristen Kautman three.

Both teams traded the lead in the second quarter. The Bulldogs took the lead at the 40-second mark off an Andrew Zeeh basket for a 29-27 advantage. Cougar Jacob Hoth then made a three, giving Sumner-Fred a 30-29 lead. A late 5-0 run, fueled by a Kautman steal and lay-up, along with an Austin Schoulte three, gave the Bulldogs a 42-37 at the half.

The teams also played a close third quarter, but the Cougars never got close again, as the Bulldogs had an answer to the Cougars scores.

Cody Mason led the Bulldogs with 16 points, while Kautman had 11 and Schoulte and Zeeh each pitched in 10. With the victory, the Bulldogs’ record lifted to 9-0 in the conference and 11-1 overall. The boys will play the same games as the girls Jan. 31 and Feb. 3 and 4.
