AARP tax volunteers to help Crawford County residents

The AARP Tax-Aide program will help prepare 2013 federal, state and Wisconsin Homestead Tax Credit income tax returns for Crawford County residents at four different locations within the county. This free help is offered to low and middle-income people, with special attention given to those 60 years and older.

AARP counselors will not be able to assist persons who must file a business income tax schedule C if income is over $5,000 (along with a few other stipulations), or persons who are using filing status “Married Filing Separately,” or a married person qualifying as “Head of Household” or for a person whose divorce became final during 2013.

The tax counselors will be in Prairie du Chien at the Crawford County Administration Building, 225 N. Beaumont Rd., Room 326B, on Feb. 5, 12, 19, 20, 26 and March 5, 12, 13, 19 and 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The counselors will also be in Gays Mills at the Community Commerce Center, 16381 State Hwy 131, Suite 1, on Thursday, Feb. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; in Soldiers Grove at the Community Building/Library, 102 Passive Sun Drive, on Thursday, March 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and at the Crawford County Highway Department, 21515 State Hwy 27, Seneca on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Returns will be completed by appointment only. Call the Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) in Prairie du Chien at (608) 326-0235 or 1-877-794-2372 for an appointment.

This Tax-Aide is a free service provided through a joint effort of AARP and the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
