Ken Borne, 83, passed peacefully Jan. 21, in Bradenton, Fla.
He was born Feb. 11, 1930 in Prairie du Chien, the second son of five children to Harry and Marilla (Kahler) Borne. In his early years, he competed in sports at Prairie High with his brothers Harry and Bob, achieving many awards in various sports. He spoke proudly of his athletic achievements in his youth.
Ken married Betty Jean Rodenkirch, of Prairie du Chien on April 28, 1951, at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church. Their enduring love carried them through the next 63 years.
In 1956, Ken went to barber school in Chicago, Ill., relocating to Cary, Ill. in 1958. Ken was a barber for almost 40 years in the Carpentersville area. His greatest passion was meeting and getting to know the people he met along life’s path. He retired in 1995 when they moved to Floral City, Fla.
Betty Jean and Ken raised six children who brought them many years of pride and joy. Ken was a husband and dad who provided for his family, worked hard, and encouraged debate and independent thinking in his children. Ken and Betty educated all of their children in Catholic school and passed on Christian morals and values. He enjoyed laughing and sharing with family and friends and left behind a legacy of great memories to those who were fortunate to know him.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Betty Jean; brother Robert Borne DVM; sister Lorraine (Bud) Miller; his children Jeannine Weyrauch, Crystal Lake, Ill., Jennifer Bornekomosa (Gary), Crystal Lake, Ill., Jim (Tara) Borne, Milwaukee, Jay (Randi) Borne, Oswego, Ill., Janel Borne, Bradenton, Fla., Jody (Adrianne) Borne, Loganville, Ga.; twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by brother Harry; sister Donna Reilly; his parents; sister-in-law Millie Borne; brother-in-law Jim Reilly, sister-in-law Bonnie Borne; nephew Robbie Borne and niece Vicki Borne.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Jan. 27, at 12 p.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Rev. James Weighner officiating with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Monday, Jan. 27, from 10 a.m. until the time of services. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
