Virginia Eichmann


Virginia T. Eichmann, 77, of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Postville passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Prairie Maison Care Center. 

She was born June 19, 1936 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Arthur and Cecelia (Weis) Drefahl. She married Edgar Eichmann on June 3, 1961 in Milwaukee. Virginia was a librarian for the Postville Public Library for 15 years. She was a devoted member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Postville, and an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society and the American Red Cross. She was a member of the Quilters Guild and involved with Hoffman Hall in Prairie du Chien. 

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Edgar Eichmann of Prairie du Chien; her children, Annette (John) Moore of N. Hollywood, Calif., Mary Byron of Ridgewood, N.J., Laura Eichmann of LaCrescent, Minn., John (Marcie) Eichmann of Colorado Springs, Colo., Carol (Jarod) Bufe of Downers Grove, Ill., William Eichmann of Iowa City, Iowa and Robert Eichmann of Marshall, Minn; along with eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Jan. 17, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Prairie du Chien, with Rev. James Weighner officiating. A private family interment will be later in Glenview Gardens in Ixonia. Friends may call on Thursday, Jan. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien where there will be a wake scripture at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Hoffman Hall Fund or the Holy Family Parish Capital Campaign Building Project.
