John Herold Marvin, 85, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
He was born on April 24, 1928, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Gladys and Allen Marvin. John was a longtime resident of Madison. He went to UW-Madison and continued to work as the Art Director at the university until his retirement. John travelled extensively to Easter Island, China, and Czechoslovakia. He was also an expert in the field of genealogy.
John is survived by his sister, Jean (Robert) Collins of Madison; brother, Robert A. (Betty) Marvin of Franklin, Ohio; nieces and nephews, Ross A. (Carla) Collins of Morton, Ill., Kristie (Trey) Neher of Appleton, Richard A. (Rebecca) Marvin of Austin, Texas, and Kimberly (Tim) Creditt of Cincinnati, Ohio; and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Per John’s wishes, the family will be gathering for a celebration of his life that will be held at a later date in the spring.
