If you are planning a wedding or any type of party in the coming year, the Wedding and Party Extravaganza in McGregor, sponsored by Nelson True Value-Nelson Rental Center, is your guide to all the services, rental equipment, decorations and other personal touches you will need.

In its fifth year, the Wedding and Party Extravaganza, which moves its location around to reception halls in the Prairie du Chien area each year, will take place at McGregor’s Landing Event Center in McGregor, Iowa, on Sunday, Jan. 19, from 1 to 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend this free afternoon of fun and enthusiasm focused on everything related to party planning.

Area businesses will be set up at tables around the event center showcasing information about themselves, including their services, products, rental details, door prize drawings and more.  The vendors will hand out samples, snacks, pamphlets of information and business cards that will serve as good references after the showcase.

Vendors will include the Nelson Rental Center, which offers tents, serving equipment, tables, chairs, inflatables and more; as well as cake designers, caterers, jewelry retailers, florists, deejay companies, photographers, motels and hotels, bridal attire and formal wear companies, salons and spas, beverage retailers, reception halls and more.

“We really offer people an eye opening experience that will make them think twice about going elsewhere,” said David Derksen, former coordinator, who is handing the reins of the extravaganza over to Don Howell this year. Both work at True Value in Prairie du Chien. “We have vendors from all over the region represented who have some really impressive skills and services. Our goal is to involve the whole community and encourage new brides and party planners to keep it local.”

Howell, who has been busy lining up vendors for the showcase, said up to 400 guests have attended the Wedding and Party Extravaganza in the past. Many come from local communities, while others have come from as far away as La Crosse, Elkader and Fennimore.

Vendors are still being accepted at this time. For more information, contact Don or Beth at Nelson True Value-Nelson Rental Center at 326-2491.

“Space is determined on a first come, first serve basis. That’s how they get the quality spots (in the event center),” Derksen said.
