LuNida Miller


LuNida Iola Miller, 94, of Farmersburg, Iowa, died Saturday, December 28, 2013, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born March 28, 1919, on the family farm. LuNida is the daughter of Alivin and Adalia (Marting) Vogt. She was baptized June 1, 1919, at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg and also confirmed there by Rev. Adix. LuNida graduated from Farmersburg High School in 1937 and attended college at Upper Iowa University in Fayette for two years for her business degree.

LuNida married Eugene B. Miller on February 28, 1941. Two children were born to this union, Virginia and Grant. They farmed near Farmersburg, and then moved back to her home farm in 1946, when her parents retired to Elkader. LuNida was interested in many activities, baked cakes for 50 years for friends and relatives and belonged to the U & I Club, Get-Together Club, Ladies Aid and Square Dance Club. She was a 4-H Leader, and she loved to make crafts of all kinds and shared her talent with her friends and relatives. If you were a salesman, friend or even a hobo (who did stop by from time to time), you were served food. LuNida also belonged to an Anniversary Club of eight couples all married in 1941. They traveled around the country in their motor home, taking their grandkids along and coming home with many stories.

LuNida is survived by her two children, Virginia (Russell) Pate of Farmersburg and Grant Miller of Farmersburg; three grandchildren, Christina Pate of Scotland, Brian (Lauri) Pate of Minnesota, Robert (Caroline) Pate of Indiana and three great-grandchildren, Christopher Pate, Philip Pate, and Gregory Pate. 

LuNida was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene and her parents.

Visitation was Thursday, January 2, 2014, from 3-6 p.m. at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Friday. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Iowa with Rev. Jenny Edinger as the officiant. Interment followede at the Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, Farmersburg, Iowa.
