Area man charged with robbing convenience store

DUBUQUE—A Bloomington man is accused of first-degree robbery, a class B felony, after he allegedly robbed a Dubuque convenience store by gunpoint Dec. 15, according to Dubuque District Court documents.

According to the criminal complaint, a man identified as Chad K. Reuter, 35, allegedly walked into Amoco/BP convenience store at 7:39 a.m. wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and a bandanna over the lower half of his face. The man poured himself a cup of coffee, went to the register and asked an employee for two cartons of the cheapest cigarettes. As the employee reached for them, the man pulled out a black handgun and demanded money from both registers. He said he wouldn’t point the gun at the employees, but he was “going through a rough time,” the complaint said. Another employee tripped the silent alarm.
