Ronald E. “Ronnie” Bird, 78, of Seneca passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born March 2, 1935, on the family farm near Wauzeka. He married Dianne Zinkle on Oct. 19, 1953, in Boscobel. Together they farmed most of their lives in the Seneca area. Ronnie was an active member of St. Patrick’s Church in Seneca and served on the Seneca school board for 21 years. He belonged to the Seneca Fire Department and the Lion’s Club. He enjoyed playing on the Seneca Farmers softball team. He was the founding member of the Bird Olympic Deer Hunting Team.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dianne Bird of Seneca; his sons, Mark (Kay) of Hillsboro, Ore., Bryce (Nancy) of Muscoda, Bill (Judy) of Seneca, Brad (Joy) of Avoca, and Brian (Angie) of Platteville; his daughter Susie (Scott) Garfoot of Seneca; his sisters, Betty Schmidt of Boscobel, Sally (Jack) Warczak of Monona, and Nancy (Homer) Davis of Lancaster; his brother Ben (Mary) of Wauzeka; twenty-seven grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Seneca, Reverends Eugene Wolf and Zacharie Beya co-celebrating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, Dec. 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the mass on Saturday, Dec. 21, at St. Patrick’s Church Hall in Seneca. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
