Mary Jean Langel

 

Mary Jean Langel, 88, a resident of the Good Samaritan Center, Davenport, formerly of Milan, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at the center.

Visitation was before services at the church.

Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rock Island.

Arrangements were handled by Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, Ill.

Private burial will be later at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.

Mary Jean Heiderscheit was born Sept. 23, 1925, in Guttenberg, a daughter of Nick and Emma (Meyers) Heiderscheit. She married Elmer J. Langel on Nov. 14, 1945, in Guttenberg.  He died Sept. 27, 1991.

Mary Jean had worked as a seamstress at the La Rose Shop, J. C. Penney’s and for Carson Pirie Scott.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rock Island.

Survivors include her children, David Langel, Rock Island, Judy (Royce) Edwards, Silvis, Ill., Dale (Lori) Langel, Coal Valley, Ill., and Jeanie Swanson, Milan, Ill.; son-in-law, Chuck Bahrs, Rock Island, Ill.; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Joyce Bahrs; sister, Melinda Maiers; and brothers, Merlin and Cyril Heiderscheit.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
