Girls roll to 50-28 win over Central
By Michael Newton
Coming off a win against Decorah the night before, the Bulldog girls traveled to Elkader Dec. 6 to take on the Central Warriors. The Bulldogs ran out to a 13-4 first quarter lead and never looked back. With three three-point baskets from Lexi Dettbarn, the Bulldogs stretched the lead to 24-11 at the half. Central was taken out of its offense by Madelyn and Haley Vogt, who disrupted the passing lanes. Central’s top player, Kiana Stender, was held to five total points by the Bulldogs.
The second half was more of the same for the Bulldogs, as they played everyone in the half, outscoring the Warriors 26-17. The Bulldogs got two more threes from Dettbarn and one from Chaun’te Drahn for a total of six threes by the Bulldogs.
The win put the Bulldogs record at 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference. That puts them in a six-way tie for third early in the conference race. This week, the girls will play Ed-Co on Tuesday, Dec. 10, in the home opener. Next week finds the girls playing at Postville on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Cresco on Thursday, Dec. 19, and then at home versus Starmont on Friday, Dec. 20 to finish out before the Christmas break.
