By Michael Newton
Cody Mason put the Dec. 6 game on his back early, as the Bulldogs bested Elkader Central 71-40. Mason scored 21 points in three quarters of play, along with four steals (the Bulldogs had 17 total), as he made life hard on the Central guards. Freshman phenom Tristen Kautman scored 13 in his high school debut. Junior Austin Schoulte had 13 points, while juniors DJ Ammons and Andrew Zeeh also scored in double figures, adding 12 and 10 points respectively.
The Bulldogs got out to a 15-2 lead early and never looked back, leading 38-19 at the half. They then broke the game open at 67-32 early in the fourth quarter.
With the victory, the boys went to 1-0 overall and in the conference. The boys’ schedule is the same as the girls except they will play a home contest Thursday, Dec. 19 with the Waukon Indians.
